Independence
This is one of three models (purchased in kits) that I have made. In this summary I refer to the model "Independence 1775" by Artesania Latina. It is referred to as a fictitious model, although the reference to a sloop "Independence I" has been found on the website of the US Navy (the Americans have had 5 ships with that name) but it indicates that this sloop has 10 guns, while the model to be worked on shows 6 guns and 8 falconets. On another website it is indicated that the model is similar to the Halifax, Swift or Harvey, it must be considered that, due to its lines and tonnage, the model could be considered representative of the colonial schooners built in North America, which Harold Hahn covers in his book "The Colonial Schooner - 1763 - 1775". These schooners are ships with two or more masts, the largest being the mizzen mast, and use gaff and jib sails, jibs and staysails, instead of being mounted on yards.
GENERAL DATA
Independence
Type: Schooner
Function: Defense

Overall length: 26.39 m (754 mm)

The Artesanía Latina model is code 22414 and comes in a cardboard box, the parts packed and separated, plans, sails, accessories and wooden rods. The only difference with the model proposed by the supplier is the transom. I thought it would be better to remove that metal plate and replace it with a resin and wood one that I made. It should be noted that there were no discrepancies with the list of materials, but they are not generous in excesses either, the quantity supplied leaves little room for error. More details, references and photos of the construction phase and the finished model can be found on my blog:
