Interest survey - ironclads of the ACW

Any interest in kits of ironclads of the American Civil War/War of Northern Aggression (depending on which side of the Mason-Dixon Line you live...)? The monitors and ironclads of this period lend themselves well to laser production and come in a wide variety of configurations. BlueJacket already produces 1/192 scale kits of MONITOR, VIRGINIA, and CAIRO and I would probably maintain this scale as it produces a smaller, less expensive but sufficiently-detailed kit that would satisfy both beginner and experienced modelers. In 1/192, CSS ALBEMARLE, for instance, would be about 10" long and have the armor belts lasered into the panels.

Hi Al, Civil war ships interest me. A model of an ironclad of the complexity and quality of your Kearsarge kit should be interesting. Unfortunately although Monitor has name recognition, it does not make an especially interesting model. I would suggest one of the 2nd Generation Monitors; the Passaic Class which is more “ship like.” I built one from scratch a number of of years ago. I’ll try to get a photo. I also have a Naval Historical Center publication with a body plan. There is enough information to draw a lines drawing. I drew one using a simple CAD system (Generic Cad) for my model. There are also some details that would have to be figured out. if this sound like a worthwhile project, I would be pleased to continue the discussion via PM.
