Also an untouched kit I have in my shelf waiting for better times, or a shipwright touching her.

"HMY Royal Caroline, 1749" - scale 1:47 by manufacturer Panart / Mantua, available also via Victory Models or Krick

The history of the vessel mentioned by Panart:

Royal Yacht the Royal Caroline was built at Bedford shipyard in 1749 as yacht for the English Royal Family. She served for many years, during which she sailed all around the world. She was finally broken up in 1820. This beautiful ship had an extremely competitive line for racing as well as a rich set of ornamentation all around the hull.
Royal Caroline Model Ship was a Royal Yacht built for the use of George II and his wife, Queen Caroline. She was sailed for pleasure cruises by the Royal Family and as a transport for members of the court sailing between England and Holland.
On the latter occasions, she was accompanied by as many as four frigates, and when the King was on Board, accompanied by the First Lord of the Admiralty, her distinguished captains included Sir William Cornwallis and Sir Hyde Parker.

In 1761, the vessel was renamed Charlotte (later Royal Charlotte) for George’s III Princess Sophie Charlotte.

the first view when opening the box, on top the decorations

IMG_29031.jpg IMG_29041.jpg
under the decoration the wooden strips visible, as well as three boxes with small parts, metal parts, blocks, rigging, etc.

IMG_29131.jpg IMG_29151.jpg
The photo etched plate on the right photo is not any more in the kit which is now for selling, the manufacturer chnaged this part, it is now a laser cut

IMG_29171.jpgIMG_29181.jpg
The decorations - metal casted - looks nice and detailed, but off course not wood, like the new actual kits have

IMG_29201.jpg
The wooden strips are looking good, not the highest class of timber, but good

IMG_29211.jpg IMG_29221.jpg
The CNC cutted parts a sharp and clean, nevertheless the choosen timber is a little bit strabge with the sort of timber, extreme grain is visible

Surprisingly not much wood in the box........POB typical kit

Could this kit be upgraded by using the pear wood decorations ??

What about the rope and block's quality?
Hi, like Zoly already wrote - it is the standard quality of kits from this time - acceptable for such a kit, but it would be the first and easiest way to pimp the kit construction with changing them....

What do you mean with "....THE pear wood decorations"? - Is there some different set available on the market? In this scale?

But you are correct, the kit decoration out of metal have acceptable quality for such a kit and were typical for the time these kits were developed.
But there is much much room for improvement.....

Probably this one

Probably this one

This could be yes - there is maybe a small problem with the scales - the chinese kit of the Royal Caroline (with resin ornaments) is in scale 1:50 - the Panart / Mantua kit is in scale 1:47 (as mentioned on the box)
But definitely a big improvement to the original elements

i like this one, but this one is more general to SOS and doesn't represent you as individual.
