La Renommee 1/48th Scale

Thanks Andy - personally if you can gather the proper tools (good mini circular saw, scroll saw, disc sander and a mill) - about the same price as a kit - you are better off scratching. Building a fully framed model is challenging whether you have kits parts provided or make your own. The difference in making your own parts is an advantage because trust me you will mess up parts and assemblies - which is never an issue to rebuild you own. Also you get quality control over all wood that is used on your build. And for me most importantly by building off the monograph you have a sound basis for reference. Many of these Chinese kits use the Ancre plans to base their kits on - so you have two sets of plans to compare - Ancre's and the kits - which are almost always different and cause problems. Unless of course you rely on the kits plans exclusively. I believe CAFs plans are pretty good and the owner offers tremendous support for his customers.

Either way give building a full frame a try ! If you are set on a kit in its entirety you may want to consider the Enterprise. Looks like a great kit with plenty of other modelers builder her on the site.

Thanks for the reply CLB
I have built a kit pof model (the Blandford) that I enjoyed. My problem with milling all my own wood is that I live in a communal building... 4 flats .. and I don't think it would be fair to the other residents to be sawing etc. Sanding is noisy enough but at least a lot of it can de done quietly by hand.
I will take another look at the Enterprise
Thanks
Andy

Hey Andy,
If you're familiar with that manufacturer and enjoyed the Blandford - I would for sure consider their Enterprise - from the looks of it could be the best POF kit on the market currently. I hear you re machines for sanding - I am lucky to have a dedicated workshop for milling wood and making plenty of sawdust.
Best,
Chris
