this is my log of the LE ROCHEFORT MONOGRAPH BY GERAD DELACROIX. SINCE THIS IS MY FIRST FULL SCRATCH BUILD I AM GOING TO NEED HELP, SO I AM APROCHING THIS IN A DIFFERANT MANOR, what I am proposing is this RATHER THEN ORDERING A LARGE QUANTITY OF MATERIALS AT THE START AND LETTING IT SIT FOR MONTHS BEFORE I UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON, I AM GOING TO DO SAMPLES OF THE VARIOUS FRAMES ONE FOR EACH TYPE AND SMALL KEEL SECTIONS DETAILING EACH STEP FROM PATTERNS TO INSTALLING ON THE KEEL, I THINK THIS IS A GOOD WAY TO HELP NOT ONLY ME BUT OTHER FIRST TIME SCRATCH BUILDERS BUT TO HAVE THIS WORK THE MEMBERSHIP HAS TO CHIP IN WITH BOTH ADVICE AND COMMENTS, SO LET ME HERE WHAT THE MEMBERSHIP HAS TO SAY. THANKS Don

Congrats on your decision, Don! It is not just a first scratch build, but plank-on-frame! I cannot be much help, but... I am taking a chair, and will watch-and-learn! One day, I hope to build my first-time scratch model.

Good luck!!

Hi all, Thanks for the input this is what I was hoping for, Zoly the scale 1/36 MONOGRAPH BY GERAD DELACROIX,,, GILLES what I am not expressing myself properly, WILL TRY AGAIN, before starting the BUILD and ordering materials, I will use materials that I have to do ONE FRAME FOR EACH TYPE OF FRAME (DOUBLE, CANT, HALF etc) JUST ONE SAMPLE OF EACH ALONG WITH A KEEL SAMPLE so the frame (ONE OF EACH TYPE) can fit in, WILL START THE PROCESS FROM POSTING PLANS (UNDERSTANDING THE NOMENCLATURE) CUTTING OUT THE FRAME PATTERNS ALONG WITH THE SMALL KEEL SECTION, CUTTING THE FRAME OUT ETC, THIS IS BEFORE STARTING THE FULL MODEL,,,the purpose of this (MY FIRST FULL SCRATCH BUILD) is to help MYSELF AND OTHER FIRST TIME SCRATCH BUILDERS, to fully understand what is happening and how to do it so as to prepare for the actual build, THIS CAN ONLY HAPPEN IF THE MEMBERS WHO ARE SKILLED IN SCRATCH BUILDS CAN GIVE COMMENTS AND HOW TO DO IT THE RIGHT WAY, THIS IS SORT OF A MINI PRACTORIUM, YT yes I have a camara and will post pictures soon (NEXT WEEK),starting with the plans for the KEEL SECTION AND FRAME CONSTRUCTION, the plans are in FRENCH but THERE IS A ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE MONOGRAPH. HOPE THIS EXPLAINS WHAT I AM TRYING TO ACOMPLISH. THANKS ALL Don

Hallo Don,
If I understand correctly your question:
Yes, all measures in ancre publications are metric, (or the original contemporary measures, but than it is definitely mentioned there.)

@donfarr

Thanks, i am all but not a master. My La Belle is my second ship, my first scratch. I have do learn a lot. Everything. Every day there is a new mistake on my way. There´s a lot of techniques that i don´t know how to handle it. Carving, canons, the metal parts....the list has no end. But we will climb the rock !

Hi Oliver I have done a LOT OF KITS AND SEMI SCRATCH BUILDS, NOW STARTING MY FIRST FULL SCRATCH, MISTAKES I AM A MASTER AT THAT, I TO CAN NOT TURN THE CANNONS OR DO ANY TYPE OF CARVING TO LATE FOR ME TO TRY (81 plus years), but learning a lot MORE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS THEN IN THE PAST 5 YEARS COMBINED, WILL START LISTING IN MY BLANFORD BUILD LOG MAYBE HELP SOME NOVICE OR INTERMEDIATE MODELERS TO AVOID SOME PIT FALLS. Oliver and Don, I totally agree with you, there is always something to learn, I still try and fail with my projects,
therefore I switch projects a bit until the problems are solved, also try to get most of the rough / dusty done
worked in my garage before work continues indoors for winter.
Greeting-
