So it's not small then 3ft in length ! Is it easier to work with a model that size or is it a bit cumbersome ?

As long as you have the space to work in, I find it much better to work on large models, especially with 'aged' hands/fingers & carpel tunnel syndrome.

You will see that I made a lot of modifications and improvements to the kit which, basically, is not of very good quality.

Hello friends,
Four years ago, I started building the Superbe, a French 74-gun ship from 1785. Quickly, I found that the quality of the kit did not satisfy me and I tried to improve it, using a monograph from the Musée de la marine de Paris and the book by Jean Boudriot on this class of ship.
But enough chatter, here are the photos of the finished model after about eight months of work (not full-time )

what was wrong with it? are the cannons just stuck onto the hull as in the wasa?

A lot of things are wrong with this kit.
I detailed the build with a lot of photos on another forum HERE (in French, but automatic translations work well). I show all the modifications I had to make to get a reasonably decent result. Even the wood is of poor quality.

Thank you Fred. . I have the Le Gloieux in heller 1/150 which almost resembles the Le superbe .. still not made up my mind yet, I'm torn between the Victory and the surprise.. the gun port work is the only thing that bothers me about the victory which is probably the underlying overall decision, I originally went for the Surprise because i watched the film, i'm still pondering since i seen the Artesania latina Victory in youtube with all the lighting work getting done.
