Thank you for all the help and encourgement on the previous post. I wanted to post some work in progress photos, and ask a quick quesiton.
Just a reminder, everything on the ship so far is leather with the exception of the windows. Any gaps in the planking will be covered with barnacles and over growth.

This is where I'm at on the project. I'll be leaving for the competition on Oct 9th. I've been putting in 12-14 hour days for more than 3 weekes now to get it to this point. I've still got a few things to make, like the rudder and anchor, but beyond that, I'm adding barnacles to the hull. After that, starts rigging.

Considering I've never done this, what are your suggestions on the rigging? I'm thinking "sails up," which should lessen the amount of rigging that I need to do, from my understanding.
Also, considering the number of hours I'm putting in per day, how am I looking on time frame? Am I on a huge time crunch, or am I looking good?

Thanks in advance!

I am very positive surprised how far you are already and how good such a model in leather can look like - very well made

if you want to install masts, sails and rigging - I would install the sails, because with this you are able to reduce the number of rigging ropes.
Which material do you plan for the rigging? and do not forget also the blocks......

Or you show the model like a admirality model?

Or like just before launching - at this construction phase the masts and rigging were not installed

Thank you! I've been putting in some very long days to get her to this point. Last night I started adding the barnacles and over growth to the hull, so she already looks way different that she does in the above pics.

I'm definitely adding the mast and support rigging. Help me understand how having the sails open is less rigging...or did I misunderstand?

I've ordered rigging rope, dead eyes, and sheaves from Dry Dock. Should be here by the end of the week.

Only because that sails are covering the view on the ropes - rigging is hardly visible through sails - only the visibility - so a little bit cheating
Real ships had off course the same number of rigging with sails in the wind

Brother LeatherVerse:
That's marvelous work! I'm not sure what you have in mind for barnacles but remember that they would only be growing below the waterline. For sails, you must have them set and pulling. That would be a great chance to show off your leather working skills. Below is a picture from another thread* showing an old model with leather sails. The sails are in need of repair but give an idea of the potential. Fair winds!

Evidenced only by a swift internet search, it seem that trees and mammals may share as much as 60% of their genes. So leather is already half-way to being wood.

All that was needed to make a leather ship was unbelievable skill and sympathy with the material. Well done @LeatherVerse , well done!

I am astonished that anyone would create a fine model out of LEATHER!
