This Bluejacket 21.5 " kit is my first attempt at planking a laser cut hull. The varied contours of the hull bulkheads are are a challenge, lots of twist and curves.
I use my wife's portable clothing steamer to soften each plank, then apply to the bulkhead using a fast drying CA for wood that is moist. Darryl

BTW, it's good to see another build log for Bluejackets Lobster Boat. My second wooden boat build in 2018 was their Lobster Boat kit.

The 2018 kit.

I'm currently working on the same kit. I've noticed that they have made quite a few changes/upgrades to it. Enjoy your build.

Hi Darryl, is it possible to post the drawing of the kit? Frank

Yes Frank, but I would have to first have scan a full size single page drawing and convert into pdf, give me a day or two, i do not have a home scanner large enough for that process, so I will take the plan to Staples, Darryl

Very nice job Jan, I hope mine looks as good when completed, Darryl

As requested by Frank please see the Bluejacket LB kit single page plan. I'm new to this site and have yet to learn how to attach a PDF.

Your planking is gorgeous. I have a Bluejacket lobster boat kit in my queue that when I feel my planking skills are up to "par," I want to make in memory of my dad who was a lobster fisherman here in Maine for many years, having even built his own lobster boat. My planking experience is minimal, but getting ready to start the OcCre Bounty that seems to have a different approach to planking that I am excited to try! (I miss the ocean as grew up 32 ft from the high water mark; now in the shadow of Mt Katahdin--beautiful, but miss the ocean!)

For the last 10 months have been sidetracked building military models for a local military museum, squishing other model building projects (wood kits and plastic kits) in between. I have missed working with wooden boats, but now have 2 workbenches fully equipped and a 3rd for rigging and incidentals. Each is in a different room, so as to keep multiple projects going without taking down just to set up again to work. Two are in 2 different rooms downstairs and one is in a dormer upstairs.)

I am building models to avoid RX for RA and keep the paws moving (feel blessed); then donate or gift finished projects to bless another!

Will be anxious to see your finished lobster boat! Looks like it is going to be "awesome"!

Thank you the planking complement, this lobster boat is only my second wooden boat project, my first project last year was a Chesapeake Bay workboat boat that was a real challenge, as the kit had no plans and poorly written instructions, most was scratch built via trial & error. Of the 100 or so bottom planks had to measured, cut, and fitted starting from the center stem to the outside frame ribs, but it turned out nice. Being a model railroader for 30 years working in different mediums building train layouts in scale provides enough skills take on wooden boat modeling, in addition to growing up on Raritan Bay in NJ in the 60's working summers in a marina. Best of luck with your next build. DarrylIMG_1334 (002).jpg
