I’m working on the Model Shipways Grand Banks Dory and the plans call for glueing the “false stem”. I don’t see a piece labeled as such. From past builders, do I just use a small piece of wood for this or am I missing something?
Thanks

I have this kit but as yet it’s still in it’s box…
Nope, you’re not missing anything. I just read the instructions and they do say that the false stem is a piece of wood placed on the outer edge of the stem (paraphrased). I found no laser cut piece for this so I assume you make it with some of the strips provided.
There is a YouTube series on this build and I found the false stem mentioned at about the 4 minute mark of this video:

Best I can offer. Maybe some else has a better answer.

Thanks, not sure how I missed that!

It is a strip of wood. They say to use two pieces but I found that one worked. Soak the strip in some hot water with a bit of ammonia or windex in it and the strip will be much more flexible. Clamp it in place with clamps and rubber bands and let it dry in shape then glue it in place.

Be careful with ammonia as it will tint some woods with a kind of green hue. Not a problem if you’re painting the model but noticeable (at least to my eye) if left natural. Simple hot water works for me well enough.
