I am new to modeling with wood any and all critiques are most welcme.
I was excited to receive my kits from Model ShipWays I have to say they was very prompt and informative with thier ahipping of my kits. I am starting with the Dory as I want to make it enjoyable. When I was able to I opened the box to find everything nicely packaged. I read through the instructions also read some in a few books I ordered on model ship building. I went through the parts list and made sure everything is was there before I started.

I started with the bottom 3 planks forgove me I am not familiar with maritime terms as of yet though I am working on it.
I removed the parts from the board then gently scraped away the charring from laser cutting. I gently sanded the tabs smooth the the surface on each piece.
I went and made some copies of the plans im the book so I can lay them down if needed and build on top of them. I wanted to glue my parts together instead of the solid piece as I want ro build muself as much as possible

One thing i found was how relaxing it was I had a wonderfil time just getting the 3 bottom parts together. I will work on it some more tomorrow. Though I had a extremely enjoyable experience.

I hope you haven’t glued the three parts together yet. It appears, though it might be due to photo distortion, that the laser marks for the floor timbers are misaligned. I have a strong feeling you may need to swap the left and right parts.

Thank you, It will be a little bit of work to fix though wasnt as bad as I had expecte

After fixing my error, i used 91 percent ipa to repair my error. Which took away all my lines so had to replace them before moving onto this step. Now cleats are in place.20250606_231439.jpg

This is a great beginners kit! This is the one I began on. As Jimsky said there are many build logs on this site which to help you! There are also a few you tube videos with will help. Model Expo has (had?) a wonderful offer. When you complete your kit and send a picture of you with the built Dory, they will give you full credit towards your next kit.

I will be watching your build. Have fun!

Rob
