Mamoli MV82 Black Beard [COMPLETED BUILD]

The color of coopered sides can vary, depending on how old the copper plates are, shinny new or well weathered and aged would look more of dark green.

Just remember, its your model and paint as you wish and enjoy.
 
i was on vacation and didn't do much. But now im back and started to paint the cannons and make all the small parts to put on the deck. In the description is a drawing but you have to measure everything because the drawings aren't on scale
Also i put on the rudder and make some changes on the front of the ship (painted the bottom again with some brown and extra water so it only took away the shine and give it a very tiny brown effect)
i guess the photo's below say enough

It looks like the front it is not strait in a perfect line... but it is.? I guess the pictures make looks it different. No idea why but the first picture shows it strait.
Maybe it is because the pictures aren't taken perfectly from above.

Like you see on this picture the green isn't overwhelming anymore. the water brown i put on you almost not see but its enough to take out the overwhelming shine it had before.

meanwhile made and placed the last small parts, such as fixing everything for the rigging and made the suspension blocks for the anchors and put the 4 small hand cannons in the right location

I can convert my old proxxon drill press into a wood lathe. this is a really nice advantage to make masts.

so I made a small start with that as well. With the bowsprit

now that everything is placed on the deck except for the masts, I will first put it in the varnish.
now you can still decently get to the bottom and into the small corners on the deck.
I varnish the masts before I place them.

This time I use parquet varnish that is just plain and matt. I could also have taken a satin gloss, I personally do not like high gloss.
I use this venis because it is dirt repellent, water resistant but before it is dry you can just clean my brush with water.
He is also scratch solid and he gets rock hard. I like it better to work with than boat lacquer.
Only drawback is the drying time.
dry after 24 hours and fully loadable after 7 days.
So I now have enough time to make my masts.

Good morning. Great posts, photos and your Black Beard is looking awesome. Clever to take the shine off the green of the hull. Certainly looks much better and has a “weathered effect. Cheers Grant
 
I forgot to mention the chain sails. I have made little incision in them and place them up the lowest whaler.
I made them out of a 5x2 walnut strip and sand them a bit hollow so they fit nicely .

I did this before i start varnishing the ship.
 
The model does not come with ready-made sails and just a piece of white cotton. Normally I asked my mother to make the sails because she always did this for my father, but now she is at an age where she can no longer do this and I sat down behind a sewing machine for the first time. To be honest, it was quite complicated how such a machine works and how the wire should run. But after some practice still a bit puzzled. I first copied the sails from the construction drawing on paper and cut them out. Then placed on the cotton with pins and cut it out. immediately drawn the vertical lines on both sides. placed around a rope with loops to hoist the sails and then turned the cotton once before stitching it all around. then dipped the sails once in some water with a little bit of yellow / brown ink and let it dry so that it is no longer too white and what more resembles the color of the construction kit photo. It took quite a while to finish them, but I think they turned out pretty well. Especially since I've never sewn them myself.

Every day i try to put on more and more but it drawing isn't very clear. So it goes slow and it is hard to figure out all the lines and not every number is findable. I found out that some numbers are written in the drawings where the cannons are also drawn.
You can almost not read it or even see it, i saw it by accident actually

Last week i finished the rigging and start knotting the climbing nets.
I have taken more and more the photo on the box instead of the instruction drawings after i finished the rigging part, i tried even to get the sails in the same position. 20221128_143627.jpg20221202_115804.jpg20221128_143634.jpg
 
Today i finished the last parts and put them on the model, like the little sloop, the pirate flag , the name plate on the stand of the model.
i have put the flag on a place i think it fits better with this model, i also place the anchors different than on the photo of the box .
it is my model and i think it looks better this way.
i also fixed some little parts and rigging lines im not satisfied enough with.
Rigginglines i mostly thigh it a bit more.

I finished the model today completely. Now looking for a nice place to put him in the living room.
