Here are we again, the new building log starts. Some time ago I received this interesting kit from ZHL but it was under my desk for some time. Now I have some extra time to start working on it. According to some historic documents, this was a French merchant ship built in 1750s that sailed until late 1800s. It is a xebec-type ship with three masts and square sails on the main and mizzen masts. It is used for cargo transport and has 18 guns for protection as well as set of rows for extra maneuverability. hips were built in Marseille shipyards, designed for speed but modifications to its rigging made it slower. It was similar to xebec by its shape and building process.
So, lets get started..

Kit parts arrived very well packed in a big and heavy box, with a missing "t" in its name.
There will be a bit of a kit bashing process, since some of items included are not quite of a good quality, but can be used if needed. Kit has very similar appearance as some other vendor' product of the same ship but this can just be a coincident.. First impression, it appears to be a worthwhile building adventure.

A short history of the ship is presented on the side, with missing "t"..

While opening box, I noticed very nicely packed and protected parts, all in two individual boxes, one containing all planking material and yards, second all other hull related items.

Misticque-0001-5.jpg

Smaller box has planking boards (this is double planking model), sails material and yards..

Misticque-0001-10.jpg

Some rubber bands were broken but other than that, all is well packed and protected. White styrofoam was all over the place, preventing unnecessary maneuverability of items in the boxes.

Basic installation instructions, with some pictures might provide some guidances but I believe, a bit more research with be needed. There are few other build logs on SOS, expecting no mayor issues working on this model.

French insignia, unfortunately printed only on one side will needs to be separately made, using included in the kit as an example.

There are 4 plans in this kit, not sure if they are detailed enough but will find out during assembly process.

Misticque-0001-4.jpg

Small pieces are well packed..

Misticque-0001-8.jpg

Wood apparently of a nice quality..

Misticque-0001-9.jpg

Hull parts are made of plywood, laser cut..

This is a big ship/kit...

Misticque-0001-12.jpg

Misticque-0001-15.jpg

The main mast will need some work as it appears to be a bit twisted..

Not sure what this supposed to represent...

Misticque-0005.jpg

These are not quite good quality so I will see what to do with them when arrive to that stage..

Misticque-0006.jpg

Barrels and buckets are surprisingly well done..

Misticque-0007.jpg

Cannons will need some cleanup and colouring before transferred to the ship.. Level of details appears to be adequate..

Removing keel parts..

Misticque-0013.jpg

Misticque-0012.jpg

All laser cut parts are easily removed with exception of this one which needs a bit more careful work as laser did not go thru the whole board.

Misticque-0011.jpg

All parts removed from frames and corresponding numbers marked on opposite sides.

Ok, so it is time to start this work by assembling the keel, making sure it is straight. Two keel parts are coming tight nicely, after removing laser burns on both ends with just a small mis-alignment on top:

Misticque-0014.jpg

Extra plywood part was added on keel connection..

Misticque-0016.jpg

.. and keel was left overnight.

Nice kit, a bit unusual as I've only ever seen these Mediterranean sailboats with the typical lateen sails. Something different. You can definitely replace the white flag with the golden lilies with a pure white flag, as well as the banners. I hope you have fun and success, I'll follow it with interest.

Yes it is a weird combination, not sure if it is totally historically correct... but, certainly will replace those flags and some other items as well..

Now, I have to make sure no mistakes :)

No, it is not possible to never make a mistake; making mistakes is a natural part of the human experience and is considered an essential element of learning and growth, meaning everyone will make mistakes at some point in their lives.

Good morning. I have pulled up a chair here. Enjoy. Cheers Grant

Keel was assembled with no issues; not it is time to set up a work area for frames attachment. For this one I used my trusty Lego blocks, this time made a version 2.0.1, consisting of 8 2x8 bricks, with two drilled holes for screws.

Misticque-0001-23.jpg

Started with 2x4 blocks but realized this is a bigger model that does need a bit more support so 2x8s were deployed.
Testing straight line..

Misticque-0001-24.jpg

Now, dry fitted all frames..

Misticque-0001-27.jpg

No issues here, just light sanding to get rid of some laser burns but was not paying to much attentions to it..

Also tested deck structure and adjusted few areas to fit nicely on frames.

Misticque-0001-29.jpg

Also marked down reference lines for nails, I believe needed some nails to keep the deck curved against the frames..

Misticque-0001-30.jpg

Then started to glue frames.. here, Le Rochefort is also visible in its cradle, waiting for planks to arrive..
