After seeing another gentleman's cradle design, I was inspired by his ideas and decided to build one too. I need it to hold ships upright while I work on it. I can change out the adjustable wings for different sizes and shapes as needed. If you have other ideas, let me know!

Actually I had not seen the better one. Great idea. With this design of the holding cams you probably will be able to hold the hulls a bit on the side too. This is always required when working on the hull side details or precise painting.

Your cradle is looking like real good working tool - good idea Thumbsup

Wow that's quite a device, maybe a little felt to avoid scratches down the line?

Philski, Really outstanding job! Any chance you would share your dimensions? From your photos it looks to be about 20 inches long, 8 inches wide and the supports about 5 inches high with 3 inch 'kidney' supports... About right? And constructed with 3/4" beech plywood. I have a couple of upcoming projects this would be great for.
Thanks very much, Matt

I'll measure it up for you today. I just built it from scratch with approximate sizes that for my current build and the ability to go bigger. The 'inserts' can be easily changes to other shapes as needed. I wrapped them with leather for cushioning too. I bought the t-track at our local Woodcraft store (Kreg - also available on-line too) It was about $20.00....

Built with mostly Baltic Birch plywood. Very stable and I keep a sheet or two of it handy for jigs and projects. The hardware is 1/2" hex head bolts with 1/4-20 threads, matching washers and wingnuts. Pictures attached. Let me know if you have any question, or suggestions!

Good thoughts. Here is the link to a German site with similar approacheshttps://www.der-lustige-modellbauer.com/t20197-eine-helling-fur-alle-falle

Philski, thanks very much for the measurements and detailed photos! It really is a versatile cradle and I will make one for my HMS Prince project coming up. The Prince is quite long... 40+ inches and quite wide... I'm thinking this will be great for the post planking construction phases. I'm also thinking about some kind of 'latching' arms to ensure the model doesn't move during rigging specifically. Thanks again, Matt

Latching is a great idea. I would replace the inserts with some designed to hook up over the sides as a hold down....you could design it to a specific size. Take care.

So I have purchased the building slip, but haven't assembled it. My thought on it was to ensure properly aligned bulkheads and planking... I didn't think it would be a good choice for the finish work... I purchased mine through the Hobbyzone in New Hampshire since the German arm of this company wouldn't ship to the USA... I also tried Poland but they didn't have any in stock and directed me to NH.
