Ahoy shipmates. I have a 1973 boxing of Revell's USS Forrest Sherman, kit number 463 in 1:319 scale. I'm thinking I want to remove the molded-on railing but am at a loss on what to replace it with and how to do it. It's an odd scale and I haven't seen any PE sets for this kit. Can anyone suggest a scratch built option? Or would it be best just to go ahead with the molded-on railing and forget removing it in the first place?

Brother Strongeagle:
Please post some photos so we can have a better idea of your issue. And include a ruler in one for dimensions.
Fair winds!

Rails are on the main and upper decks. I'd be simple enough to cut them off and replace them with PE, however, I haven't seen any PE in 1:319 scale. Generic 1:350 scale is out there, and it would be a bit smaller than it should be. I'm not sure what it'd look like on this ship. Is there a tried and true way to scratch build a railing? I'm not familiar with any such techniques and I'm sure they would be quite tedious and time consuming.IMG_2023.jpgIMG_2025.jpgIMG_2026.jpg

I would assume 1/350 photo etch railings would be your only option.
I don't think that this would be a problem. Let's say that the prototype railing is 48 inches. At a scale of 1:350 it would be 0.137 inch. At a scale of 1:319 that would represent a railing 44 inches high. Even on a full size vessel you wouldn't be able to see the difference of 4 inches. Fair winds!

Ahoy Mike. You get an A+ for this incredibly clever piece of manufacturing technology. Your ingenuity and craftsmanship humble me. The curving of the bed and the tension mechanism are pure inspiration. I salute you.
