Built to provide close in heavy fire support against shore emplacements. Flat bottom and shallow draft let them approach shores under the field of fire of coastal defense gun unable to be depressed that much. I've never seen anything like this modeled before. M 33 carried two 6 inch cruiser guns and 200 shells in each magazine. Living conditions were primitive. 6 or 7 Royal Marines bunked in hammocks in the rudder room, for example.
