So, we (wife, son & me) are preparing for a move from North Carolina back to Wisconsin where our daughters & their families live. I am looking for recommendations on packaging the hull of the Donald David to ensure it arrives safely. I have looked at a lot of cardboard boxes, to no avail; they are generally too long in one, or more directions. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Happy Modeling,
Steven

too long is easy to overcome. It's when they are too short that you can't do anything. :)
I would afix it to a base the size of the bottom of the box (or crate) with straps that will hold it in place during the move. That way the extra space in the box provides a gap of protection. I moved many things that were especially fragile myself, not wanting to trust the care of the movers.

There are also places you can take things to for them to pack/crate them for shipping.

Best of luck !

Jeff

We will be in Neenah, where both of our daughters, and their families, already live. One of the guys I used to work with lives just a little way north of Madison. We lived in Milwaukee for about 25 years after I got out of the Navy.

I read a story of a man who let the movers pack his USS Constitution model. When it arrived at his new residence he discovered that they had put the model in a large box then filled it with sprayed foam!

In Jul, 1963, I spent two weeks on the USS Parle, DE708, a Destroyer Escort. It was Naval Reserve training while I was in junior year of High School.
It was homeported in Providence RI and we went to Portland, Maine, docked overnight and then returned to Providence. Portland was about 30 miles from home.
I was never under way on a regular Destroyer, but we provided repair services to them In New Port RI. I was on the USS Arcadia, AD-24 two times for a total of about 2 years.
