Good Morning
Returning to building after 10-year pause. progressing with Victory. I love detailed wood working. I have a question on positioning of a certain assembly on Frame 32. See attached pdf. Any help would be appreciated.

Build scratch built vintage aircraft for radio control for years. Focus now is on ships. I love this forum

Hello Steve,

Perhaps have a look on my videos ? I know it's difficult and the instructions are not always very clear, it is my second model (first Norske LØve there is more than 30 years). Have a good sunday ;)
 
Welcome to the fray! As you're building Victory if you do not already have it, you would be well served to get a copy of Longridge's The Anatomy of Nelson's Ships, especially if you are interested in details. There are usually used copies available for a good price.

Welcome! I'm relatively new as well and I am a huge fan of this forum. I'm on a few shooting forums where I'm a highly experienced member. I am a neophyte on this one and can rarely help (never?) anyone, but I can sure pic the digital brains of the experts here.

You have presented your question very well with the text and illustrations. Sorry I can't help.
 
It is not obvious to me from the drawings and photo. Bear in mind that the drawing, the part, and the photo may all or each be lying. Not intentionally, but there could be changes after the photo, the drawings may be off, or the part may have been machined wrongly.

Stand back, as an old shipwright would do, and see where other timbers have to go, and how they fit, and where planking and wales would run. When you have all that in your head, you can make adjustments, or remake a part. Shipbuilding is part craft, mainly common sense.

That last is hard to find nowadays though.

Take time, it’ll all work out.

Watch the YouTube tutorials of the Victory that OcCre provides on their channel. In Step 6 you will see that the bow frame edges (4.38) are definitely NOT aligned to the outward edge of frame 32 AT THE TIME OF INITIAL ASSEMBLY. The edges of Frame 32 will require considerable tapering to blend smoothly into the bow. In reviewing the instructions this is verified in the pictures 153-156. Once frame 32 has been appropriately sanded and smoothed the edges will align as shown in pictures 201-203. Hope this helps.
 
Hey Steve, I am not yet where you are in my Victory build, but I did look at the photo instructions and the videos and agree with Bargejo, that initially they do not align and will need to be shaped in preparation for planking.

What part of the country do you hail from, there are many of us scattered about, maybe someone near you if you need help.
 
It does indeed require a lot of patience because the 1/1 plan does not always correspond to the photo instructions, for example: look at the two lower gun ports of the bow... It's a shame that at this price all this lacks corrections. It would have been necessary to have it done by two or three modelers who would have taken the time to point out the errors -)) ;)
