Hello everyone. So here is my very first construction journal. This is the new Unicorn Model version of the Bonhomme Richard cross section. I already have the complete version of the kit in the process of being assembled for 2 years, so I am not finished with Unicorn and this boat. The kit is delivered in 2 packages, one for the parts and the other for the templates, all for a weight of almost 8 kg. First observation: there are templates for everything, the smallest nail in its location on a template, really impressive. A clear improvement compared to the complete kit is the identification of the parts. Here we have the reference of the part as well as the reference of the plate where it is located. Bravo and thank you Mr. Unicorn! Otherwise the precision in the cuts is remarkable, no problem of adjustment in the assembly template, the couples are assembled with simple pins, it is almost too easy. Bravo also for the wooden nails (0.4 mm is not common). I don't have many pictures from the beginning of the construction because I didn't plan to make a journal of it, but in the future I will do more.
The couples are all glued, comes the installation of the glazing. First strips, first problem. On the slats is marked the direction and the side where this piece should be. As we can see on this image if we respect the outline we will see this marking once the piece is glued which is not normal. To remedy this it is necessary to turn these 2 strips over and glue them on the other side, the strip supposed to be on the right will therefore end up on the left and vice versa. In this specific case it is not a problem but I fear for the future, we will not always be able to reverse the pieces. Especially since the other strips are good It looks like the laser marking was done on the wrong side
The paneling is laid up to the first beam, the nails are laid and the outer hull is sanded. The next operation will consist of tracing and cutting the gun ports and laying the gun ports. See you soon.|
