Hi all and happy new year!
I am in my fifties and have built models (plastic and wood, RC and display, mainly ships) since I was a kid.
My most laborious builds I did in my early twenties. Since then there has been a long break from ship model building.
Now I was gifted one of these 'cheap' chinese laser cut kits that come in a plastic bag (the laser cutting quality is really impressive, the build instructions are not), the Baltimore Clipper/ Schooner type 'Halcon' which got my model building fingers tingeling again.
While looking for more information about this speciffic vessel I came across this forum. I was super happy to see what some of you already accomplished with this kit.
I will perhaps start a build log of the Halcon as well.

Previous builds include:

Completed: Clipper Agilis (Steingräber kit) 1:60
Completed: Cross Section U.S.S. CONSTITUTION (Mamoli kit) 1:93
Completed: Hunter (scratch built after scaled up Mamoli kit plans, fully RC) 1:36 - photo below

Unfinished: Golden Yacht (Corel) 1:50

Best regards,
Constantin

Since you live in Germany, this might be impractical, but here goes:

The Baltimore Clipper was the American adaption of a fast sailing craft used in other British colonies; Bermuda and possibly Jamaica. They were first used in illegal trades where small fast vessels were necessary to outwit British Colonial enforcement. During America’s two succeeding wars against the British they performed the same function except legally for the American Government.

The two best books about the Baltimore Clippers were written by the renowned American maritime historian Howard I Chapelle. Using drawings made by the British of captured American vessels as his primary source, he expertly discusses what is known and sometimes not known about these interesting craft. Although others have tried, no other author has come close to Chapelle’s discussion of the Baltimore Clipper.

The two books are: The Baltimore Clipper and The Search for Speed Under Sail. Both are widely available at reasonable prices on the used book market.

Reading either of these books will help you to build a better model.

Welcome to the forum, please use the search function to see what others have posted about builds or information about this ship or the kit you have.

We have many members from Germany here and you never know who may be near you to help if needed.

Hi Roger,
thanks for the literature recommendations! I was able to order both books 'used' for a very reasonable price in German book stores. Now I will have literature for a model kit probably manyfold the cost of the actual kit. That is part of the hobby I guess :)
