I've been using one of 'those Chinese cut-off saws', but the motor has always seemed to be 'hunting' until all of a sudden it started gradually speeding up to, what I imagine, it's top speed, but I thought maybe it's on it's 'last legs', so I thought it was time for a replacement. I looked at Proxxon KGS 50 & KG50. For my use the KGS was a bit over the top, so I read reviews of the KG50 which were all gave a very poor opinion. Never the less, I searched & I came across an 'As new pre-owned' one on 'the bay', so purchased it. The saw is supplied with abrasive wheels 50 mm x 10 mm bore. I think we all know abrasive discs are not ideal for wood, so I searched for circular saw blades 50 mm x 10 mm bore, but only found 50 mm x 9.5 bore, I bought one of them wondering if I could open the bore using a taper reamer - no, too hard. I removed the disc from the saw & found that the mounting boss had a spigot both sides, with my mini lathe I turned down one side to 9.5 mm dia., refitted it with the saw blade & "Eureka!" I have an xcellent mini cut off saw. Despite the 'damning' reviews by 'silly-people' who probably expect these small tools to perform like full size ones, I have a 'good 'un' which I've cut 12 mm x 12 mm wood, 6 mm brass tube, 1/16 brass rod all with the same wheel. Sorry Shipmates no photos due to Microsoft making my camera download their way not mine, sending photos to where I do not know!!!!
