OcCre HMS Beagle by Robp1025

Thank you very much donnie. Actually gonna post an update today. It's slow because my work days are super long this weekend.

So didn't get all I wanted to get done today but I'm making progress. Over the past couple days got the planking done and today got all the sanding done. 20210508_142541.jpg

At this point decided I wanted to keep the same hull idea that the main ship had so I'm doing three of the life boats with the second planking of the Walnut .5 mm planking then will be varnishing them. The boat inside this will be painted its colors because that texture is not seen on the bottom because it is part of the deck furnishings. 20210508_145208.jpg

Probably monday will be a bigger day to get these finished so I can move onto fitting them on the main boat and moving onto my most unfamiliar part which is yards and all.

PS: I'm not sure if I mentioned this but this is my first wooden ship model so a lot of this is a learning process for me.

Very good, that you started this building log - I will follow your progress with big interest

So after some time working on the life boats I decided to stop and just finish the large lifeboat inside the ship. 20210511_235956.jpg20210511_221449.jpg20210511_221453.jpg

I really like the way the tie down turned out for lifeboat20210511_235952.jpg

After this I started to try to work on the outfittings at the bow and then mistakes were made.

After a quick patch I fitted the two rods and started try to measure the chain before I decided to call it a night. I just hope tomorrow is less destructive lol.

Alright so got the bowsprit finished and here is how it went!

First got the whole base built and stained

Then I got all the strings tied and ready and then tied on.
20210519_011906.jpg20210519_173505.jpg20210519_173513.jpg

Got all the details situated and got ready for the part I feared the most....

The 6mm hole...I didn't like this step because it felt wrong lol. I spent a lot of time and man hours on this beauty. I also didn't think about the fact of needing the hole for the bowsprit when doing the hull. But luckily my unconcious self didn't wood fill the initial cut part in the false for it so it went a lot easier to start.

So I pulled out my trust dremel and with some patience and some maneuvering I got the bowsprit fitted properly and glued it in place. And now it dawns on me that this is gonna be a massive ship compared to the small cars I have done. It makes me super excited though. 20210519_215706.jpg20210519_215715.jpg20210519_223948.jpg20210519_223957.jpg20210519_224004.jpg

Alright so I haven't done a update in a little so here we go.

Work has begun on the foremast and has started with the initial mast itself.
20210521_001556.jpg20210521_001556.jpg20210521_001559.jpg20210521_191309.jpg

So then I did the rest of the foremast and then mounted got it fitted to the ship to get an idea of just how big this bad boy is gonna be.

Then I thought hmmm I want a friend to help me show off my progress so say hello to pickle the pirate budgie!!

And currently working on the cross sections of the fore mast should be done them maybe next week

Thank you for your time everyone and hope your enjoying so far.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while but has been quite all over the place but I have been doing some slow progress on my first ever ship. Hopefully I can maybe finish it by the end of the month.

Great looking ship build. I have eyed buying this kit, and its nice to see how well it went together for you.

I have another kit from same company, and the cannon carriages that came with it were cast metal, and looked bad and hard to detail.

What was your experience with the cannons and carriages they had in kit?

Yea it's a great build for sure. Just need to contact OcCre to get wooden blocks and deadeyes. (I wish I did that) other than that it really is a nice project

Hello, Rob. I am not sure if you are familiar with the Dry-Doc shop, but let me assure you, that you will not find better looking\precisely made blocks and deadeyes anywhere. The store has all sizes from 2mm to 8mm. Please check it out, and let me know how do like them...;) The store is owned by one of our forum member - Zoly. You can PM him @zoly99sask with all questions
