Deck_24_10_24.jpegAfter an interim project (I also built Captain John Smith Shallop), I'm finally starting my "Terror". Since the model kit has a lot of simplifications and Matthew Betts' book has sparked a lot of ideas, I'm going to make a few adjustments. The first major one is the deck planking, which is simply too rough in the model and urgently needs adjustment.

It's an unusual layout for those deck planks. Was it designed to act as additional cross bracing in case of being trapped in ice?

The ship was originally a bomb ketch, so built to take a lot of shock from vertically (more or less) mounted mortars. There was a wood and iron belt added around the waterline to resist the ice before the ship headed to the polar regions. Royal navy records are still available about what was done when. Wikipedia article is at:

It's not that the Terror had a special mission. It’s just that during the period of time under review, new engineering ideas appeared.
Diagonal plating of the deck and side surface of the main plating was adopted in shipbuilding and spread throughout the world thanks to Robert Seppings. It was on all ships, not just sloops. The Terror's deck was double planked, with the normal planking hidden beneath the diagonal planking.

Hello, my name is Marek and I live in Poland. I am also building the "HMS Terror." You are only the second person I have found building this model who decided to plank it in a scale closer to the original (3-millimeter planks). I got so carried away that I also planked the sides with them. I am attaching a few photos.

Dear zawodnik3! Good job! Interesting style! I liked the neat table for sea charts and the thin coffee pins. Unfortunately, the steering wheels were too thick. They should be replaced. Can you order 3-D printing? In addition, it is advisable to replace the yellow color of the bulwark with green. The tiller also needs to be lengthened.

Dear friends! If you wish, here are a few comments about the model.
1. The stern of the ship is shown incorrectly in the feature film. The name of the ship should be under the windows. In those years, in addition to the name, they wrote the home port, but this does not apply to Navy sloops.

2. Please note that the shrouds located on the white stripe were also painted white so as not to interrupt the line.

3. The tailgate decoration, if any, was painted over or dismantled. The Terror's tailgate has long since lost the decoration it had during the bomber period.

4. The roughest and ugliest place on the OcCre model is the rudder and sternpost. In the drawings, all elements are shown graceful. It is advisable to remodel this place.

5. Most likely, the mizzen mast did not have a topside. Only salings.

My "HMS Terror" is a compilation of the Occre kit, the ship built for the series "Terror," and the plans presented by Mr. Matthew Betts in his book, as well as some of the available Admiralty plans. Is it okay that the discussion developed on the post of our colleague "Klamaha"?
