Finished up my take on HMS Victory early this year and wanted to try something a little different. Saw Occre’s USS Missouri (kit 16002), and thought it might be a good choice. Having completed the Royal Navy’s most famous ship I thought building the USN’s most famous ship (arguably) would be a good thing. The Missouri kit is also a monster, over 4 ft long and quite heavy. It is plank on bulkhead, double planked with the second planking being very thin, and has a ton of cast metal and PE brass parts. I found the quality of materials, fit, and overall layout to be excellent. The instructions have very limited text in a variety of languages but there is a very detailed photo booklet which clarifies most questions. I was very impressed with the QA from OCCRE in that, even though there were hundreds of cast metal parts, all of them were included in the necessary quantities. Also, their cast metal parts are more rigid than what I am used to. The prow and the very tip of the stern are cast and the fit of those with the wooden hull was very good. I also purchased Occre’s wood crack filler (product 19143) and was impressed with that product too. Dries quickly with very limited shrinkage and sands smoothly.

what time period of the war & not post war does the model represent as there might be a problem with the 2 life boats amidships?

David, I honestly don’t know the answer to that. I did notice that the davits were probably the weakest part of the kit in terms of design but I just built it as best I could.
