Hi collegues,
I started the build a couple of years ago.
It was interrupted several times, but I do not give up)))
I will start my log with the current position if you do not mind))
Now it looks like this. The mortir barrels were made by prominent Russian shipmodeler, Dmitry Shevelev. I just scratched the platform and all wetal wear. The parts from the kit were sent to the bin....

Thats a sensational looking model. Please post some more pictures.
and we have nothing against to see also partly your working steps before - Maybe you know, that I am building the La Salamandre from CAF also, so it would be very interesting to have a complete impression - if you could make a time-lapse would be great

Thanks for showing. Looking forward to se the rest of your build. Looks like it will be amazing. Just curious how does one order from Dimitry Shevelev? His castings look great.
His casting is available from russian shipmodeling.ru
The second option is to order from him directly, he has a thread in forum on the same site

Thanks, guys, will start posting some pics of previous stages of the build)20160820_213159.jpg20160820_213313.jpg20160625_130003.jpg20160814_133732.jpg20180617_165312-min.jpg20180701_122536-min.jpg20180701_131455-min.jpg20180701_131518-min.jpg20180701_150340-min.jpg

Thank you Koreets for the updates and great photos of your excellent work. They will help for Uwek’s and my builds. Can you tell us about any of the challenges and difficulties you have come across so far? Thank you also for the tip on Mr Shevelevs work.

Hi, ADC!
Thanks for your high estimate of my modest efforts!
The kit is rather interesting, but chinese guys have simplified a lot of stuff. I build this kit for more than 3 years with stops over. The longer I build the more kit parts are replaced by scratch. First of all, I usually do not use paints on my models. So all the black parts are scratched from black wood (artificially colored however))))
I do not use the kit etched parts - they seem quite ugly.
Interesting details such as mortir, guns, etc., are replaced

For instance - scratched on the right

I also use only scratched masts and rigging.

Regarding the difficulties connected with the kit itself - just discovered that the kit planks for the forecastle deck are TOO short!!! )))
Anyway, I planned to replace them with better wood. ))))
Thats all shortly so far))

To be continued, of course!

In your first post, what type of wood are the blocks. I love the color, texture and tones of the woods throughout this ship.

If you mean the HALIFAX, the blocks are made of pear, toned.

I forgot to mention that I tone the rigging(all the ropes and blocks to make'em vivid) with "umber burnt" - its oil artists paint. Its the only point where I admit the paint)
