A little history
Oreanda is an admiral's yacht of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Empire. In August 1848, she set off from Nikolaev around Europe to Kronstadt and, having won the sailing races, returned back the same way. The yacht was commanded by Fleet Lieutenant I. S. Unkovsky, who was awarded a prize from the hands of the emperor after the race. 11 yachts (five tenders and six schooners) participated in the competition. The frigate Pallada was appointed as the judging ship of the races.
The ten-gun yacht "Orianda" of 1836. The single-masted vessel was used as an admiral's yacht, as well as as a messenger vessel. Manufactured according to English drawings, slightly modified, was listed in the 32nd naval crew from 1838 to 1856 and was the favorite yacht of the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Lazarev M.P., who personally took part in its construction.

The yacht's artillery consists of ten 8- or 12-pound cast-iron carronades. The length of the vessel is approximately 25 meters, the sailing armament is a tender.
Following the example of the English prototype, the ship had a rich finish: rigging and deck made of precious wood, mahogany trim, copper and bronze details.

In 1846, Ivan Unkovsky, a famous navigator and explorer, was appointed commander of the yacht, later commander of the famous frigate Pallada.

The yacht "Orianda" was honored by the visit of Emperor Nicholas I, who congratulated Unkovsky I.S. on his victory in the selfless imperial race and handed him the "highest prize" - a gilded silver bucket decorated with precious stones with the inscription: "Who succeeded in the sea races on August 14, 1848," and the yacht was given the name "imperial".

The combat vessel with high running speed and powerful weapons was at the same time smartly decorated and, of course, left a bright mark in the history of the Russian fleet.
