Overlap planking

How does overlap planking works? Do you have to start at the bottom and work your way up or Do you have to remove some wood with sanding from the plank that goes onze top of the other?

G'day Pat
I'm building the Royal Caroline ships boat at present. If you wait a few days you can see how I'm approaching clunker panels.
I have to take a few weeks off because of I'll health and the admiral orders. Hope to do some more very soon.
To answer your main question, you have to turn over the model and start from the keel.
