Pavel Nikitin Oseberg #3 kit #61

Finally had sometime in the shipyard. Mostly staining some of the various bits and decks.

I used MinWax "Special Walnut 224" for the decks and other bits. The hull had one coat of MinWax "Dark Walnut 2716" sanded and then covered with two coats of "Special Walnut 224". I plan to add a ckear coat this weekend.

I decided to go with a "Aged" look for the hull. I wanted the look of a working ship.

Next on the agenda is to complete the updated decks that go with the new mast step.

Good morning Jan. I have always wanted to give my models that aged/old look but I always chicken out. Way to go. Cheers Grant

That is looking very nice, Jan. The aging is very convincing.

Oh boy, first the Flu shot , recover, then the Covid booster, recover, then unseasonable Fall weather (todays high temperature is forcast for 87F/30C with high humidity), but I did manage to start the first part of the mast step installation.

The first replacement deck was straight forward, needed very little adjustment and fit quite well. The other two decks will require a bit of work. I think those will be one deck board at a time.

:D No, no, the rubber bands are not holding the hull together.

I've found it's easier to work on the hull with the ships cradle temporarily attached.

Hello Jan, 87 is a major heat wave for y'all! If it would get to 87 down here, we would have to get out our jackets. I am so sick of our 95+ deg days.
Anyway, your weathered deck sure is looking fine along with the modified mast step.

Indeed, a couple of years ago on a road trip to Tucson we experienced the fine weather you have. We were on I-10, doing 70+mph with the outside temperature at 90+. We had a week of 100+ in Tucson. Not much fun for a cold weather guy.

The modified mast step is a bit of work to get a good fit, I really like the way it looks.

Good morning Jan. Your mast step looks very good. It is quite the feature on these Viking ships. Clever way to keep the model onto the cradle while working. Cheers Grant

Thanks Paul.
Thanks Paul.
Hi Jan.

I really like how your model is turning out, the upgraded mast step looks much better than the original. Excellent job!

I received my upgrade kit a few weeks ago, I really need to get working on my kit again...I haven't touched it for six or seven months now. :(

Question: When you glued the double biti's together on now frame one, did you sand it down to the same profile as the original version of the kit...using the supplied stencil that Pavel included? He doesn't show if the profile is the same in the plans with his upgrade kit.

Thanks,
Steve.
