Is any one from Philliadelfa Pa? the reason I ask, is because, at Penn's landing, they have a maritime museum, with about 4 ships dry-docked, one is the MOOSHLOU, WILLIAM PEEN's ship, which is a restraint, next to that they have WWII sub, cool, the last is a cargo ship, I think, or a battlewagon, but inside is one of the places that MAKE wood and plastic ships but strickly for model shops. It is a neet process, I did not want to leave, some were made for display only.

I've visited the museum and toured the sub Becuna and the battle crusier Olympia, Dewey's flagship at the battle of Manila in 1898. Both are in very good states of restoration. The museum building exhibits are also excellent. Anyone interested can get more info at the museum website https://www.phillyseaport.org/. The Olympia photo is from the web site. Yes, I have been there. I'm from NE PA. Penns landing is great. Loved the model shop. Didn't want to leave there as well.

The Olympia brought the Unkown Soldier from France to the US for burial. Excellent book on the topic is "The Unknowns" by Patrick O'Donnell. Next on my reading list is his book on the Marblehead Mariners by the same author.

The Olympia is NOT in good condition other than cosmetically, and for a number of years it looked like she would either sink at her berth or be sunk as an artificial reef. There just isn't that much money around for historic ships. But things seem to be looking up:

I have spent many hours there. I am a ww2 associate member of the sub vets of WW 2. i was good friends with most of the volunteers who gave tours on Becuna SS319. Becuna was the sister ship of the USS Baya SS318 who i knew both the ex officer and capt Jarvis who took her on 5 war patrols. i have the commisioning plaque from Baya which was give to me before the XO passed.

Thanks for the heads up. Haven’t been to the museum in years. Will have to check out the models.

The tour in Philly was virtuality, but when I lived in Allentown, I did apply for a job at the MOOSHLOO restraint, as a chef, but at the time I did not want to drive 60 miles, and my time was short, but the virtuality tour is good.
