I am an out of work furniture maker, having lost my business when the bottom fell out of the economy in '08. So needless to say my second favorite hobby is now pinching pennies. Before I switched from PC to Apple I used a free software from Google called Picasa. It allowed just about every aspect of photo editing that the "big boys" had in their editing with the exception of the price. Picasa is FREE. When I made the switch to Apple my new Imac came with iphoto built into the machine and it has to be the easiest thing that I have every used. Not being at all computer literate it makes editing photos and movies "idiot proof" which works just fine for me. When it comes to computers I need the "idiot Proof" stuff. :)

What I have been using for many years is the Paint Shop Pro (used to be by JASC). Now Corel owns it. My latest version is Corels Paint Shop Pro Ulimate X3. It is good at what it does for under $99

Re: Mantua's Le Soleil Royal

<t>I Use Windows 7 Paint and Reduce the size to around 10 - 20 percent and save it as a JPG file . Than I check the properties and make sure it is under 2 MB. Also does anyone else have a problem when the photo is to big and you add the file you lose all your work and have to start over ?</t>

Re: Mantua's Le Soleil Royal

<t>If you noticed, they were all under 2 mb. With the detail that will follow with my next set of pictures, any further reduction would not show the workmanship. Without DSL or cable, it may take some time to load, but the clarity is worth the small wait.</t>

<t>Be sure to Preview the photo's before submitting them. You need to reduce them to size in order to fit the screen .</t>

Resizing Images for Gary M

<r>thanks Denis for doing this. Gary, if you want I might can help you with the image reduction. A lot of people get confused about resizing, cropping, and compression. Man - this would be a lot of info for you to digest so let me put my thoughts together to see what I can come up with. <br/>
<br/>
Do you want a FREE photo tool or are you willing to pay a little bit. Right now, Corel Paint Shop Pro is selling for a very small amount.<br/>
I use Corel extensively and love it. It is very easy to use and the advantage is that I can show you how to use it. As a matter of fact, I guess I can put a tutorial online on how to perform my actions when working with images.<br/>
<br/>
I highly recommend <URL url="http://www.corel.com">www.corel.com</URL> 59.99 until April 4</r>

Re: Mantua Le Soleil Royal after 700 hours

<t>The software I used compressed the original pictures from 2.5 to 3 mg by 20% to 25% and as you can see, got them all under 1 mg.</t>

<r>When I prep a photo to add to the Forum, I open the photo in Paint. Then I re-size by 50%, both H/L, I do this 3 times and get great results and the photos load everytime. Remember this, photos on your computer will eat up alot of memory, after you select your photos for up-load, the ones you will not use trash.<br/>
Your computer will run faster! <E>:ugeek:</E> <br/>

Re: New Topic in Photography forums

<t>Black and White or Color ? Which one is better ? For High detail I found Black and White more Clear For Color I found it's better for show . Not all camera's have the ability to take photo's in B@W . However most software like Windows Paint you can change to B@W . Corel has really detailed software but can be complicated for the novice . Anyone who knows a good software program for photo's for the novice let me know . Thanks .</t>

I have a Canon 400D. I don't use MS Paint. I use PaintDotNet (PDN) or Photoshop. If I want to resize images (not raw) I use PDN, else I use Photoshop. I try to take my images in raw format, but that only works on my Canon if I don't use automatic settings. Always colour. If I want black and white images, I use Photoshop to render it thus. You get better quality B&W images like that. I've tried B&W with the camera, and change from colour to B&W. I prefered the DIY, but that is up to the beholder and the one who uses the camera.

If you want to have a go at PDN, you can download it here: http://www.dotpdn.com/downloads/pdn.html

Take care to install custom, you can avoid some browser toolbars and probably some other &^%$ which you often get with free software
