Hi,
I read in one of the posts about using crochet thread for rigging.
I live on a small island do not have access to any hobby shops that sell model ship rigging tread.
Does anybody know what size of crochet tread is about. .03 or 0.4 mm.
Bought a nr 10 but that is about 1 mm.
Is t5hat nr 80 or 40 tread ???or in between
Thanks for reply.
Saludos

I cannot answer your question but there is a simple way to figure it out:

Wrap several turns, tightly spaced around a dowel. Measure the length of the wrapping (along the axis of the dowel.).

Count the number of turns.

Divide the length that you measured by the number of turns.

Done!

The photo below shows a handy little tool that I made for doing this. The thread is wrapped around the smaller diameter dowel and the markings are 1/8in and 1/4in so I don’t have to measure.

By doing this you can possibly find thread of higher quality than that sold to ship modelers. Linen is prized by many modelers.
