Hi Folks,
I have been part of this wonderful community since the beginning of Dec 2024 and started with Occre’s Polaris as my first build. I have made many errors with the first planking and showed pics to you all with some very helpful advice which resulted in me having to remove many planks at the bow and the stern.
Of course there were other errors along the way and I have picked up a lot of new skills and knowledge.
I finished yesterday and even though it’s not perfect I am proud of my achievement.
I don’t have space in my home as the boat doesn’t fit with our decor and style of home, therefore I will put another shelf in the garage, which is where I built it, and there it will sit for me to admire it and all future builds. I will attach a few pics of errors and the completed build of my Polaris at the end.
I have two builds ready to start ———- Artesania Latina’s Sopwith Camel ( yes I know it’s not a ship, but I love aviation and the sea ) plus the next ship which will be ——- Occre’s Black Swan. I have bought both and think I will start the Sopwith Camel first as it’s only 150 hours compared to over 500 for the Black Swan.

That’s a fine-looking ship you have created. I’m thinking of doing the polaris in the near future. Does the kit include pre-stitched sails, or are those of your own devising?

Well done, Dennis !! Looks great. I've not moved an inch on my build with the exception of relocating my "shipyard" to a larger room (vs. working in a spare bathroom). Still need to install the sails and then I, too, will put a wrap on it.

Hi, Thanks for your comments, the sails you see in the photos come with the kit, obviously you need the glues and the paints / varnish, but all paints are a kit too. Instructions are quite good but you need to think ahead. I enjoyed building it and have gone for another OcCre kit again, oh, plus the aircraft as well.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Hi Henry and thanks for all your help during my build, it’s been invaluable. Good luck in your new shipyard and to completing the Polaris.

I'll be looking forward to your next build.
Mine will be the Model Shipways Bluenose. The kit is sitting on the rack urging me to carry on. At the moment, it is a bit hard to work on the Polaris when the outside weather is beautiful with a temperature of 75 to 80* (F) here in East Texas knowing that in a couple of short months the temperature will be north of 90*.

Hi Henry,
Wow, Model Shipways Bluenose. A racing schooner, beautiful lines. That will test your planking skills. Just looked at one build on here and it looks fabulous on the hull with beautifully formed planks. I too look forward to your build.
75/80 would be a bit too much heat for me. But 90+ , thats too uncomfortable.
Take care
Dennis
