Friday, I purchased sufficient Basswood to plank the solid hull of Bluejackets 1/96 USS Constitution. The web price was $45, but when I called to order the price had doubled to $90 plus $10 bucks shipping. Quantity was 100 pieces 3/32x24x.20. Is that out of line with the market??? Fortunately, I had purchased the copper plates several years. If they double as well, that will make them around $450. I understand now why rolls of thin copper strip have replaced individual copper tiles, but some of the best rolled copper has been discontinued by 3M and is only available on the secondary market at a 300% mark-up. Bluejacket's Connie is now over a Grand if you want to plank it, and copper plate it.
Yes, their is a reason why kit costs are going up.........
