Hi Michael
What type of ship's boat is this? (
Lifeboats, per se, did not exist in 1840
)
For rigging the boat to the davits, there are models that show a little of this on the RMG Collections site. One example --->
https://www.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/rmgc-object-66775 It may not be the right era so not necessarily the best example.
https://www.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/rmgc-object-86761 is a contemporary plan showing the release mechanisms on the boat itself.
For the boat sail rigging I know this may seem like a lot and, maybe, unimportant for your project, but the rigging varied with the type of boat and if it was single masted, double masted, lugger rigged, schooner rigged, ketch rigged or a variation. Assuming there is no way to know what the ship's boat on the
Agilis was, it may be best to pick the type of boat (long boat, pinnace, launch, barge, etc) and size and type of rig you want to go with. Then you can find details in various books such as those by W.E. Mays and/or Lavery. There is a great drawing of a rigged long boat ZAZ7322 on the RMG Collections website. I have no idea if it is appropriate for you project, but MAYBE an example of where to get started.
I do hope some of this is at least a little help to you.
Allan
