Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. My shipyard went to crap. Too much stuff and not much time or room to organize. Life got in the way ‍‍♂️

After redoing some rooms I decided to gut and remake the ship yard. I should have taken a before shot

Here’s stage 1 with the new floor down, new cabinet and my corner desk from the spare room that was just redone.

Congrats on starting to build your new shop. Its exciting !
I am building a new shop as well. I'm using one bay of our garage. Just had an epoxy coat put down on the floor. :)

Stage 2 done. The work surface is MDF with a hardwax oil finish. I haven’t tried it before but my 5 minutes of Googling resulted in choosing it. ‍♂️

So any recommendations on organizing this?

And last thing today. What the heck is this thing??? I inherited it from my Father-in-law when he passed but have no idea what it’s for. He was into modeling and wood carving. It has two calipers that go from 0 to 25 on each turn, 4 turns for 1 on the gauge which goes to 10. 10 = 1” of travel, so it’s in 1/1000” increments. Any ideas?

I started my workshop this way some years ago. Thought is was smart because of easy acces,
Soon I discovered its a disaster to keep it free of dust. Special the open shelves.
And once its starts, you end up finding it everywhere, the shelves, on the models...
Better to put some doors in front of the shelves ..

Your father-in-laws device appears to be a part of a micrometer. It would be very accurate to measure and could be used to draw lines, cut pieces and parts or position parts.

Organization..... such a calming word.
My father past away back early in the fall. In his words at 91 " I had a good life and I enjoyed it ". He was a model boat builder too. Since l am the only one in the family building as well, I inherited all his stuff.
I am in the process of reorganizing my shop to take in his gift to me. Tools, kits and wood...... sounds like a nice thing, but soooooo much stuff......

ORGANIZATION... now good lord, I had a coffee here somewhere

I just might do that, thanks for the suggestion

Just finished a 3 year build of Occre Endeavour (pictures to follow), and similarly now that I have tidied up I am looking to re-arrange my workspace also before my next build.

Jeff please show us the beginning pictures and the finished ones! thanks, Magic Mike

My only thought is about the photo showing hammers hanging on nails above the work bench. I wouldn't think the nails would be a secure place to keep weight above the bench, and who knows what would happen if one of the hammers slipped or nail came loose and it fell down.

Great comment Kurt! You are correct. A loose hammer landing on a new superstructure could spell disaster! Instead of nailing into sheetrock first affix peg board sheeting. When using peg boards on the wall there are safety clips that will hold any tools securely after use. Magic Mike

There is a picture of my new bandsaw and then another picture of my floor covered with an epoxy finish. :) It's just a bare garage right now, although I just got my new dust collector that I need to post pics of.

Supported MDF can be very flat. And it's inexpensive. To prevent any chipping or flaking it might be a good idea to add a hardwood strip to the front edges of your tables.
