In the kit I am building the walnut wood planks are very brittle. Any processing with scalpel, file or saw may result in splitting off the chunks of the plank. I believe it is happening as the planks are old. The kit I think is from the 80s. In order to make these planks processable I found the following would work for me. I soak them in the water for a few minutes and apply with the brush a diluted PVA or carpenters glue on it. When they are absolutely dry (as about on next day) the planks become much easier to process with no or much less splits.
Could you please share your own methods of addressing this problem?
