Ropes of Scale

That would be great information. The closest I can think of are the block lists for similar schooners such as Columbia which was only about 2 feet longer than Bluenose, that are published in the American Fishing Schooners book by Chapelle. Once you have the block sizes you can calculate the rope size very easily. It is a pain in the butt book as the chapters are a collection of short writings and are somewhat in alphabetical order and no index so hard to find things. Still, it is an extremely useful book to have if you are building any kind of fishing schooner. For lengths you may need to estimate be running a test piece of rope along the path it will follow on the model.

Hi All, I'm back to carry on with my Bluenose build, but can anyone tell me the sizes and amounts of scale rope to order from ROS, to complete the models standing and running rigging.
Regards
Paul
Hi Paul. I have just looked at my orders at RoS for my Bluenose. But be aware of all the rigging I made …. My rigging plan was based on the plan-set of MS/Lankford. With a lot of .25mm/.011 ropes. Included all the rigging lines for the sails, fish hook, flag line etc etc.
I first ordered this TAN ropes:
1x .25mm/.011
1x .35mm/.013
1x .45mm/.017
1x .50mm/.019
1x .60mm/.033
Extra order later:
3x .25mm/.011
2x .35mm/.013
2x .45mm/.017

The Black ropes:
1x .25mm/.011
1x .35mm/.013
1x .45mm/.017

That is without the ratlines. I made them of black Serafil 120/2 0,15mm / .006". If needed: I can send you ‘a lot of meters’ in a envelope.
If the .25mm/.011 is to small to handle, then you have to divide the amount over the others

Ps: I made a excel-sheet about —> Rigging and Block Measurements <— (click) with conversions of the 1:62 MS/Lankford sizes to 1:72 for the YQ model. If you will use that please read the whole thread till the update at post #13

I don't have a direct answer but maybe I can be a little helpful.
Take each size of rope.provided in the kit and wrap it around a cylindrical object ten times. Divide the resulting width by ten and you will have the rope size needed.
The itemized parts list states the length of each ropes part number and you can calculate how many meters will be needed. I hope.this helps.
Happy modeling
