Hi Gang,
just purchased this 3D printed resin kit from Ebay. I love old style pre dreadnought era warships, with a ram bow and multiple smoke stacks.
Its a Russian Bogatyr class cruiser in 1/200 scale. Looks good from the photos, but I intend on kit bashing this model with aftermarket parts and accessories.

This is going to be interesting and I’m sure to look over your shoulder. I’m 3d printing a ship as we speak - from scratch - and start to understand all about the intricacies. E.G. the railings: I appreciate you swapping them for PE, but 3D printing them is really tough work. So at least have a good look at the craftsmanship.

Hello friends,
after waiting with excitement for my new 3D printed resin kit to arrive today, I am rather disappointed when examining the kit fittings. Most parts are warped and badly out of shape, and I'm contemplating how to remedy these problems.

Here's a few photos of the parts. A twisted and mangled mess.

I have seen You tube videos about straightening 3d resin parts with hot water, but will research further before attempting it.

Oh. Bah. That is really disappointing. And whatever tricks exist to straighten resin, with this many curves and details, that doesn’t look promising.

If I’d be doing it, I would probably reconsider.

What is actually looking OK? Could you use parts and rebuild the rest from scratch?

Pfff. Not a fun way to start a ship.

Sorry to say..... and I am not a specialist for resin kits ..... but this is looking terrible (and in my opinion not acceptable)
Compare yours with the advertisment photos you showed in the beginning - what a difference

Ah. Good. Another waiting period, but at least a clean start. Tip: when you unpack the parts, they should be dry and not a little sticky. If they are, they need curing in UV. Daylight for a couple of hours should do it. NOT in full sun (although here in the Netherlands you’d have to wait for about six months for that to occur).

Hello friends,
despite the setback with some fittings not up to standard, I am pushing on with the build. The vendor is sending me replacement parts for my model.
I have removed most of the 3D printed deck fittings molded into the deck with a xacto knife, heating up the blade to red hot with by butane torch. The fittings then easily were removed.
I then filled the deck with fibreglass filler and overlaid the areas with my aftermarket timber deck.IMG_0518.jpgIMG_0527.jpg

Hello Bryian!
Wow, what a project! I am still looking for an IRN BOGATYR cardboard kit and set of plans. So I will follow your build with intrest. These 3D-printed kits are the new kid around the block.
