S.M.S. Scharnhorst 1/100 [COMPLETED BUILD]

Boris, you continue to amaze.
Here's the museum model I was referring to:-
The model you show is in the museum of Wilhelmshafen

The model in Hamburg International museum is shown f.e. here with three or four photos

or here

Comparing the models, the quality of work, which we are getting presented here in this building log is much much bigger

Boris, a great job on this project!! Very impressive in the execution as well as the research needed for such detail work.

Do you know what the dark red decking material was on the actual ship? Was it linoleum? I've seen this on Japanese warship models also.

Thank you all for the thumbs up. And nice words.

it’s indeed linoleum used for the decks, and as mentioned by Uwek, that’s the correct paint number schemes.

i used burnt red 70.814 from Vallejo.

And we are going a bit further, I have manufactured and placed the screw protectors I have removed all burrs and edges from the screws and then polished them. Below some pictures,

as often said, pictures say more than words.

For the imitation canvas on the railings, I use "torck paper" (used in the catering industry).

From which I cut strips

Which I treat with a mixture of Polyurethane varnish and paint as colouring agent

I hang these up and let them dry, so that I get straight strips of paper

If I want to cover railings, I cut strips in the appropriate width and length,

These I treat on both sides with a mixture of Polyurethane varnish and speaker glue

As soon as they start to dry a little and feel like sticky tape, I apply them and shape them into the right shape with a small brush and a hair dryer.

Hope this clarifies things a bit, for me it has been a process of trying many types of paper and techniques, but the above works very well for me, and in my opinion comes close to reality (because of the lighting used, the "canvas" shines through, but later under the right lighting it looks very realistic in my opinion.

Thanks everyone for the thumbs up and nice comments.

@ Paulpk, for reverence I use drawings, and I collected a lot of pictures, was already planning to build the Scharnhorst some years ago.

pictures quality and resolution where in my opinion much better then.
Most is nowadays downsized to lower resolution, makes a nice picture but useless for details. (Just my 2 cents)

Worked a little bit further on the Scharnhorst, more or less the final chapter “the mast and rigging and antennas.

Made a beginning with the two lower parts of the mast and belonging platforms.

Bellow a few pictures, it’s still very basic, but gives a bit of a impression.

I love your model !
Usually I am more interested in sails, but your model is for me an extreme exemption
I am looking forward to see your work on the rigging, antennas etc.
