I see many sails -ready for use from Kits -badly made. Will start with spritsails..pic 1. the light grey one is the leech rope, which are nearly missing on most sail. it is a difficult part, as it is attached to the edge of the sail- the only way to do it is by hand sawing 2, nr 3shows my way to do it. using paperclips to support the leech rrope to the sail, and now by needle sewing, changing the paper clip accordingly. nº 4 a tool to make hole alonge the inner edge, to insett ring to fasten to the staynº 4. it is to insert the bigger ring on the 3 corners. making a hole with no5 according to your wish, gets a male and female part. insert the male part. on the other side inssert the female part or ring. then press them all together.
it is not only for staysails but square sails too

El Capi,
I couldn’t agree more with your opinion about the ready to use sails from kits.
Yes, “The Leech Rope”, it is so important and it should be included in your sails.
In my case I learned this fact and because of it, pushed myself to purchase a Singer $120.00 sewing machine.
It took me over a month to learn how to use it. To do so, I tried all of the type of stiches provided by the machine until I felt confortable to create my own.
And yes, the leeching rope I sew by hand, here is my final product.
