What do the experts say the smallest scale that actual full size rigging could be made. On reading through "Tha Anatomy of Nelsons Ships" it is evident that there is much complicated rope work involved in rigging a period ship. How small could you go realistically?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Technically rigging can be done on any scale model. The question is how you will represent it. The bigger the scale, the more details you can show, and much easier working. However, on a bigger scale is hard to cheat.
Contrary to a smaller scale, you can omit some details for better appearances.

I would say. 1:48 scale is the optimal scale to show most if not all, details. The smallest I would choose to rig would be 1:64. But that's me, others may have a different opinion.

Just so you know how you can do rigging, check out the build log of our members @archjofo with his permission I posted the image. He builds on 1:48th scale.
