Noting that contemporary kits feature masts, etc. made from laser cut planks versus traditional dowels, I am curious to hear about other people's preferred tips and tricks for forming these pieces. Turning them on a lathe seems an obvious answer, as does binning the kit parts and remaking them from dowels.
