Starting some shrouds and want to be sure I understand what should happen. My model is an 1800s schooner. It has an uneven number of shrouds. I think I bring one line up, around mast, down same side. Then for a third line, run one up from each side, on opposite sides of the mast then seize them together creating an eye. Hope that’s correct. Reference attached. 1. Model diagram 2. Far left. Example of what I think is correct 3. Other arrangements. Thanks for any advice.

Pairs: Serve appropriate length in the middle of a piece of cord that is long enough for two shrouds. Place round the mast then form deadeyes at appropriate height, fix lanyards then final tension can be adjusted by applying the seizing round the served parts at the masthead.
Singles: Serve the appropriate length near the end of a length that is long enough to make a single shroud. Form a loop of the served end, place that over the masthead then proceed with bottom end as before.
My understanding is that shrouds are paired, and there will be only be a single if the total number is odd.

I served some cord it worked great and thanks to Jimmy, know how to get from dead eyes around mast and back. At left (fingers) is my complicated and expensive serving machine.

My serving machine spent maybe 5 bucks for clips, springs, and brass tube, steel support plates and misc screws.

Love it threebs... I’ve also experimented with my grandfather’s antique drill, clamped in my father’s 80+ year-old-vice, mounted to my ancient workbench. Very diy, very personal, for me anyway. Feel like they’re all involved in my project.
