I am building sovereign of the seas 1.78 scale, would like to purchase barrels for the deck. How do I workout the size/dimensions for said barrels.

I think your best bet is to measure the length of barrels and check with different suppliers, try Dry-Dock Models and parts, they are listed on home page at bottom right list of vendors.

They sell several different length of barrels and carriages for them.

I'm looking for barrels too. There were a million sizes. Technically, they should be called "casks." A cask is any barrel, but a barrel is a specific size. Here's a PARTIAL list of casks sizes below.
