I've been messing with the driver boom for the HMS Discovery1789. I've been looking at various builds and some ships seem to have a loose footed driver and some have a boom. I can't seem to find anything that would explain why or when. I like the look of no boom and may prefer that if it's consistent with the Discovery's era. Can anyone offer any info as to when or why driver/spanker booms were used or not used?
