Were, in the ages of sail, blocks, dead eyes, hearts etc. of the standing rigging tarred as well? Or tar was only used on the ropes?

That answer is dependent on era, country, and the whims of the ship's captain. In general, all standing rigging had some coating of preservative to prevent rot, etc., with one such preservative being pine tar which was thick, and pine oil which was thin. In my opinion, it would be acceptable to model standing rigging with a darkening stain to represent these preservatives.

Thank you very much @danielsje for your kind response and helpful answer. Although my question is fully answered.... the standing rigging to stain, still to your question, its a french ship in the 1790's, L'Hermione.
