I've just completed the wood construction phase of my first ship build and am preparing to commence the rigging. Before doing so I need to determine how far down the shroud lines the serving should go. My kit was produced by Artesania Latina (H.M.S. Surprise) and the instructions do not mention serving lines at all. So – How far down the shroud lines does the top serving go? Past the iron bar futtock?

Thank you in advance for any assistance with this:).

I believe the forward shroud in each set was served all the way down to protect against the chafing of the sails and the others were served well past anything that might rub against them.
True, but the trick is determining how far down the shroud that is. Otherwise, it is just a guess. What is needed are a few examples of shroud serving from real ships to figure out how it would be done on the model. Perhaps 18th century rigging books or some old museum models can yield some data. If I had access to such information, I would describe it here.
