I did something really stupid. I'm about halfway through rigging the Discovery1789 and realised that I haven't hung the staysails so I'm trying to get some info about staysails on the Discovery1789(or any small ship) so I can make an educated guess about whether they were furled or stowed away most of the time. I did a search through Vancouver's journal and the only time he mentioned staysails is when they were storm staysails. Wikipedia says that they were only used when on a long tack(at least that's how I understood it). The period that I'm trying to show the Discovery is while she is on the inside passage(out in front of my house). She was headed northwest which in the summer here would be almost all be short tacking, maybe a mile or so. When she anchored for a day or so would the staysails(if they were up) be furled or possibly taken down. Any info about staysails would be nice.
