Suggestions about book to start

The following advice is based on your expressed desire to build models of regional Italian watercraft.

I personally do not recommend mass market ship modeling books. The vast majority of ship model builders build Plank on Bulkhead models from kits and these books are aimed at these modelers. The most popular subjects by far are British and European sailing warships, Your intended subjects are different.

One book that might interest you is: The Gondola: An Exceptional Naval Architecture by Carlo Donarelli.

Hello everyone!

Thanks for all welcome messages, I'm new here and new in ship modeling.
I've always worked with plastic vehicle models, but I've started build my first naval wood kit and I've just finished it.
My first model kit is a Mini Mamoli Bregante, I will post pictures of it.
I'm interested in historical italian and mediterranean ship models and I would like to have suggestions about books on:
- rigging (something about nodes from XIV to nowdays);
- sails (drawings, rigging and colours of sails);
Instead about modeling I would like to know more about paintings and detailing.. different kind of woods to use, painting for wood, how detailing (maybe some useful tools to have)..
Since I'm new here I didn't have time to read all threads about these arguments so if there are already threads about it (and sure there already are) could you please link them or help me in find them?
Thanks a lot to everyone!

I have been interested in ship modeling since childhood, but it is difficult to find good books on this topic. The choice in regular stores is small, and specialized publications are quickly sold out. Recently I came across the site abebooks , which has a wide range of books on ship modeling - from historical sailing ships to modern vessels. It is very convenient that you can order the necessary literature in one place, without wasting time searching.

By the way, with the help of such books you can find many interesting ideas for new designers
