Guys can anyone help me out on converting a tamiya 1/350 scale bismarck to r/c? Need help with which motors, esc, propellers, tubes, rods and battery required. Ive done a google search but just came up with more questions than answers.

Interesting idea
I am not RC specialist, so I can not help by myself, but there are several other spoeciliats here which will and can help.
Only one question: is it a special reason, why you think about the 1:350 version - there is also a 1:200 model existing, which has I guss more space inside..... Just a thought....

Questions, oh so many....
How many props ? ( # of motors )
Weight ?
Most of this will be done through trial and error. MAKE SURE the motors can be removed incase you need to upside or downsize .
Go to an rc shop that does more than just Ariel stuff. YOU WANT SLOW in this case.
Small motors with high turns ( lower rpm)
Brushed or brushless ?
battery type ?
Search YouTube and see if someone has done this already

Cdnfurball appreciate your input, 3 motors, 3 props, yes indeed definitely slow motors and brushless as they are overall a much better motor. Battery type would be lipo, ive searched youtube but not as too specifications.

Here is a link to Modelbouwforum.nl, this gentleman has build the Bismarck from Trumpeteer, and he build in a lot of functions.
It is a member of Belgium, and it is Dutch spoken ( and written ), but Google translate can do miracles

Good luck with it

Ohh i will do indeed dont expect miracles lol as i havent built a ship in almost 50yrs lol, deffinatly putting photo etch on it ad eduard in Poland has got it so happy days on that front.

Hi Bren,
Interesting challenge.
Alli express has quite a bit of stuff, as far as I know 2 mm dia prop shaft is the smallest commercially available.
To my mind small brushed motors and sub-micro servos would probably be the go.
Some people use a small servo that has been stripped down to it's motor and control this gives you a motor with speed control.

Or you could use motors like these.

Maybe props like these might suit.

And maybe a couple of 2mm shafts, you could possibly use some 2mm ID brass tube for the prop-tube, though you might need to run it in a bit.

The principles involved are the same as a larger scale conversion and I am pretty sure there are some YouTube videos on doing a conversion.

Enjoy.

Cheers,
Stephen.

Hi, I have built the 1:200 scale Bismark which is 4' long, so may be the 350 would be more controllable. But I would talk to an RC shop who will advise on which motors would be best.
With a speed contoller fitted it might widen the selection. I wouldn't think it would be to hard to Convert after this.

Thanks Jimbo deffinatly think i will save up and get the 1/200 bismarck and have that one as my r/c battleship.
But i really want too see how the 1/350 scale ship comes out as i havent built a ship in ages.
