Did models growing up, clipper ships, and have a Reconnaissance permit with State on French Warship Le Magnifique sank in Boston Harbor.
Like to make a simple model of said ship or there is a sister ship to include in our research paper. Finding drawing on my end is zero then a model came to mind.
If you have info, you'll make me look like a hero, not deserving.
Thank You

This is the only information I could dig up on La Magnifique. It has two similar sister ships. I could not find any images of any of these three vessels, but they are similar to more well known 74 gun ships built by the French. There is a fopur volume book set in French/English on 74 gun French frigates, but they were built to a later standard, the construction detail probably being a bit different than La Magnifique of 1749. See the link below.

The Seventy-Four Gun Ship: A Practical Treatise on the Art of Naval Architecture

The Magnifique class was a class of three 74-gun ships of the line, designed and built by Jacques-Luc Coulomb.
Builder: Brest DockyardLaid down: 1747
Launched: 7 March 1750
Completed July 1750
Fate: 10 August 1782, Grounded on sandbar off Lovells Island, Boston, MA, USA
Builder: Brest DockyardLaid down: 1750
Launched: 19 October 1751
Completed: December 1752
Fate: Set on fire by British mortar attack at Louisbourg on 21 July 1758 and blew up.
Builder: ToulonOrdered: 18 September 1750
Laid down: October 1750
Launched: 7 September 1753
Completed: early 1754.
Fate: Captured by the British at the Battle of the Nile, 2 August 1798, and then burnt.

A warm welcome aboard to you Bill!
It sounds like you are new to ship modeling. Building a fine wooden 74 gun ship will require somewhere near a thousand hours of work or more for an experienced ship modeler, more if you are rigging it. This is not a minimal endeavor. Forewarned is forearmed. There is a small scale plastic kit of Le Superbe 1784 from Heller and a wooden kit from Mantua but she was part of the Téméraire-class of 74s so there will be differences, including a copper covered bottom.

The information I have seen that is closest to Magnifique 1749 is a set of contemporary plans of Centaure (74) 1757, a ship that the British captured in August of 1759. The RN was pretty diligent about making full sets of plans for captured vessels such as Centaure. These are all available at the Royal Museum Collections site in low resolution for free or you can purchase high resolution plans from them. https://www.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/search/Centaur 1757 One of her plans can be seen below. Again, if you are a novice, this probably is not a good way to start in the hobby.

Thanks,!!!!!!! for the info.......Yah, huge project to take on ......am comfortable with CAD and 3D Printing and Looking back at one time ship design plans etc have like 101 and 202 Knowledge level certainly a winter project of learning...... Like to make a simple 3D Model not much details at first.

We have info on French Naval Archie's of reference to Le Magnifique maybe ship drawing etc which is missing in our research. Like to have the originals documents.

Hi Bill,

Welcome to SoS from Australian crew.
This project sounds very interesting and I would love to follow your progress. Hoping you start a build log, which does require some effort but brings great rewards for yourself and others.
I am building a kit from Victory models , HMS Vanguard which is a third rate 74 Arrogant class from 1780s, not sure how similar it is to the French ones but it may help to look at these ships. The Bellona and Bellerophon and Elephant are all from the same class, and have build logs out in the forums as well.

Wishing you fair winds and hope to see you in port in future.

Hi Bill,
Has the curator staff at Musée National de la Marine been any help to your team so far? I doubt any museum is going to let you have their original documents but getting copies is easy with some museums such as The Royal Museum Greenwich and hopefully the Musée National. Keep in mind contemporary contracts and models can be extremely useful to go with drawings and other sources of information.

Thanks Allen have not followed your leads but will do so.

Our search places to date:

We recommend that you contact the Service historique de la Défense, which may hold plans of the ship under reference lL 443(4) n°37. Waiting from French translator, our third one so far.
